Treatment for Thumb sucking and finger Sucking Children

Favourable facial growth depends on many things.

1- Good Nasal Breathing

2- Adequate Lip Seal

3- Good Tongue Position and function (tongue rest on the roof of the mouth)

4- Correct posture

5- Chewing and swallowing

6- NO orofacial habits that may cause changes to normal function. THUMB SUCKING.

First thing to learn as a parent/carer of a sucking child is that, sucking is NOT a bad habit. Thumb sucking is a natural self soothing action that release dopamine and stimulates feeling of relaxation and happiness. Some children suck beyond nutritive feeding to seek out these feelings. This children are often, sweet, kind and cuddly kids and we certainly do not want to change this. Making a child feel bad for their sucking habit will only drive the need for more sucking. There are links to underlying health issues that may be a factor in prolonged sucking habits; such a air way obstruction or reflux issues. As an Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist, this will be assessed a part of a comprehensive evaluation prior to the start of any habit cessation program.

At Thumbsucking Solutions our program focuses on treating children in a caring, nurturing and positive environment.  We work along side many other Health Care Professionals to obtain the best outcomes for our patients.  e.g. GP's, ENT's, Dentists, Speech Pathologist, Occupation Health Therapists, Orthodontists, Maternal and Child Health Nurses, Osteopaths, Physiotherapist, Oral surgeons.

As a thumb sucker herself (with 2 other thumb sucking siblings) Katie understands that thumb and finger sucking is a very private and personal habit and that each child requires individual treatment, care and support.  Thumbsucking Solutions uses a fun and positive approach to quitting the habit.

kids are made to feel in control and ready to ditch the thumb!

With the continued support offered by Katie, children are guided through a program that has proven to be VERY successful.
